Orland woman found shot to death in garage

A 60-year-old Orland Park woman was found shot to death in her garage Friday, and police have taken her husband into custody, police Cmdr. Anthony Farrell said Saturday.

Orland Park police discovered the body of Mary Homolka, 60, in her garage after being called to her residence at 14000 Sheri Lane for a well-being check. An autopsy by the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office Saturday showed she died from a single gunshot wound to the head. She was pronounced dead at 4:10 p.m.

Orland Park police and the South Suburban Major Crimes Task Force are investigating the homicide, Farrell said.

Homolka's husband, Raymond, has not been charged, said Farrell, who noted police have been called to the couple's home in the past for domestic disturbances.

Published reports show that Raymond Homolka was arrested in December on a drunken driving charge, in 2012 on charges of aggravated battery, aggravated assault and resisting police, and in 2000 on two counts of domestic battery and one of unlawful interruption of reporting of a domestic battery.
