Hotels billed an average of 99.3 euros per occupied room, 11% more than the previous year

Overnight stays in Spanish hotel establishments during the month of March exceeded 20.6 million, which is 17.1% more than the same month of the previous year, according to data from the National Institute of Statistics (INE) released that Monday that also show how hotels billed an average of 99.3 euros per occupied room, 11% more than the previous year.
Overnight stays made by travelers residing in Spain exceeded 8 million, representing 39% of the total, while those of non-residents stood at over 12.6 million.
Last March, the average stay decreased by 4% compared to the previous year, standing at 2.8 overnight stays per traveler, according to data from the statistical institute.
With all this, during the first three months of the year, overnight stays in Spain increased by 26.6% compared to the same period of the previous year and reached a level similar to those of the first three months of 2019.
Andalusia, the Valencian Community and Catalonia were one more month the favorite destinations of travelers residing in Spain in March, with 19.8%, 13.6% and 12.9% of the total overnight stays, respectively.
For their part, the main destination chosen by non-residents was the Canary Islands, with 41.6% of the total overnight stays. The next destinations were Catalonia and Andalusia, with 16.4% and 14% of the total, respectively.
In March, 52% of the places offered were covered, with an annual increase of 11.9%. The weekend occupancy rate by bedplaces rose 7.9% and stood at 59.5%.
Canarias presents the highest degree of occupancy by beds during March (71.7%). It is followed by Comunidad de Madrid, with 56%.
By tourist area, the south of Gran Canaria reached the highest occupancy rate by bed (74.4%), while the south of Tenerife reached the highest occupancy rate on weekends (76.4%). The Island of Tenerife registered the highest number of overnight stays in March, with 2.1 million.
The tourist spots with the most overnight stays in March were Barcelona, Madrid and San Bartolomé de Tirajana. Arona presents the highest occupancy rate by beds (77.8%), and the highest occupancy rate on weekends (79.3%).
By nationality, the Germans and the British concentrated the majority of overnight stays. Travelers from the United Kingdom accounted for 23.5% of the total, while Germans accounted for another 18.1% of the total. Overnight stays by travelers from France, the United States and Italy (the following source markets) accounted for 6.7%, 5.3% and 4.6% of the total, respectively.
The INE data show how the annual rate of the Hotel Price Index (IPH) stood at 10.5%, which is 12.2 points less than that registered in the same month of 2022, and 0.6 points less than the one registered last month.
By autonomous community, the highest increases in hotel prices compared to March 2022 occurred in Catalonia (18.2%) and Melilla (13.5%).
For its part, the smallest increase was registered in Cantabria, with an annual variation rate of 0.3%. By category, the greatest price increase occurred in establishments with a silver star (18.3%).
With all this, the average daily billing of hotels for each occupied room (ADR) stood at 99.3 euros in March, which represents an increase of 11% compared to the same month in 2022.
According to the INE, the average daily income per available room (RevPAR), which is conditioned by the occupancy registered in hotel establishments, reached 62.2 euros, representing an increase of 23.8%.
By category, average billing was 231.5 euros for five-star hotels, 102.3 euros for four-star hotels, and 76.2 euros for three-star hotels. The income per available room for these same categories was 149.5 euros, 72.4 euros and 48.7 euros, respectively.
The tourist spot with the highest ADR was Naut Aran, with an average daily billing per occupied room of 172.5 euros. On the other hand, Adeje presented the highest RevPar, with revenue per available room of 148.9 euros, according to INE data.
