MADRID, 1 Dic. (EUROPA PRESS) -

Overnight stays in Spanish apartments, campsites, rural accommodation and hostels exceeded 9.3 million in October, compared to 8.2 million in the same month of 2021, representing an increase of 13.2%, according to provisional data published this Thursday by the National Statistics Institute (INE).

This increase, more moderate than that registered in September, is due to the increase in non-hotel overnight stays made by foreigners, which increased by 31%, since those made by Spaniards registered an interannual decrease of 8.7%.

The average stay in October stood at four overnight stays per traveler, according to Statistics.

During the first ten months of the year, overnight stays increased by 56.1% compared to the same period of the previous year. In campsites, rural tourism establishments and hostels, the accumulated overnight stays between January and October are above the levels of 2019, before the pandemic.

Of the more than 9.3 million non-hotel overnight stays in October, 3.4 million were residents of Spain, 3.3 million visitors from European Union countries and another 2.6 million from the rest of the world.

By type of establishment, hostels increased overnight stays by 48.4% in October, while tourist apartments registered 19.8% more overnight stays than in the same month of 2021 and campsites, 6.8% more. In contrast, overnight stays fell by 13.2% in rural tourism accommodation, its biggest decline since February 2021.
