Overnight stays in Spanish non-hotel tourist accommodation (apartments, campsites, rural tourism accommodation and hostels) exceeded 5.9 million in November, compared to 5.3 million in the same month of 2021, representing an increase of 11.9 %, according to data made public that Tuesday by the National Institute of Statistics

Overnight stays by residents increased by 3.5% and those by non-residents by 16.3%, with the overall average stay being around 4.5 overnight stays per traveller.

During the first 11 months of 2022, overnight stays in Spanish non-hotel tourist accommodation increased by 53.2% compared to the same period of the previous year.

According to INE data, in campsites, rural tourism establishments and hostels, accumulated overnight stays until November are above 2019 levels.

Travelers residing in Spain made a total of 1.8 million overnight stays, EU residents 2.2 million, while overnight stays from the rest of the world rose to 1.7 million.

Overnight stays in tourist apartments increased by 12.9% in November compared to the same month in 2021. Those of residents increased by 2.9% and those of non-residents by 16.1%.

The average stay decreased by 2%, standing at 5.6 overnight stays per traveler, according to data from the statistical institute.

In November, 32.3% of the places offered by the tourist apartments were occupied, 11.5% more than in the same month of 2021. The degree of occupancy by places on weekends stood at 36.3% , with an increase of 11.7%

Overnight stays by non-residents in tourist apartments represented 77.8% of the total. The United Kingdom was the main issuing market, with 946,622, followed by Germany with 393,882.

Canarias was the preferred destination for apartments, with more than 2.1 million overnight stays and an increase of 13.8% compared to November 2021. It also has the highest occupancy, with 82.3% of the apartments offered.

By tourist areas, the Island of Tenerife was the preferred destination, with 721,422 overnight stays. The Island of Lanzarote presented the highest degree of occupancy, with 84.5% of the apartments offered.

The tourist spots with the highest number of overnight stays in November were San Bartolomé de Tirajana, Arona and Tías.

OVERNIGHT STAYS IN CAMPING SITES INCREASE BY 8.1%.

Overnight stays in campsites registered an increase of 8.1% in November compared to the same month of 2021. Those of residents grew by 6.2 and those of non-residents by 9.2%.

During November, 38.3% of the plots offered were occupied, 1% more than in the same month of 2021. The degree of occupancy on weekends reached 40.4%, with an annual increase of 3.1% .

65.9% of overnight stays in campsites were made by non-resident travelers. Germany was the main issuing market, with 34.6% of the total of non-residents, 17.1% more than in November 2021.

The INE data show that the Valencian Community was the preferred destination for campsites, with 579,838 overnight stays, which represents an increase of 6.8% in the annual rate. It also reaches the highest degree of occupancy, with 59% of the plots offered.

By tourist area, the Costa Blanca (Alicante) was the preferred destination, with 302,390 overnight stays. This area also has the highest occupancy rate, with 76.4% of the plots offered.

The tourist spots with the most overnight stays were Benidorm, Cartagena and Cabanes.

RURAL ACCOMMODATION FALLS.

The only decrease that, according to the INE data, was registered last month in non-hotel accommodation occurred in rural tourism. Overnight stays in this type of accommodation presented an annual decrease of 2.8% in November. Those of residents fell by 2.2% and those of non-residents by 5.6%.

In rural tourism accommodation, 12.2% of the beds were occupied, 3.4% less than in November 2021. The degree of occupancy on weekends stood at 29.2%, with an annual decrease 2.9%

By communities, Castilla y León was the preferred destination, with 102,976 overnight stays, 4.3% more than in November 2021. The Canary Islands reached the highest occupancy rate, with 35.1% of the places offered.

By tourist area, the Island of Majorca was the preferred destination, with 24,729 overnight stays. The Corona Forestal Natural Park reached the highest occupancy, with 41% of the places offered.

Regarding hostels, in November, 333,449 overnight stays were registered in hostels, which represents an annual increase of 58.5%. Those of residents increased by 20.4% and those of non-residents by 113.5%.

19.1% of the spaces were occupied, 40.2% more than in November 2021. The occupancy rate on weekends reached 25.7%, with an increase of 26.1%.

The Community of Madrid was the preferred destination, with 79,299 overnight stays in hostels. It also reaches the highest occupancy, with 62.7% of the places offered.

The INE has also published the prices in this type of accommodation. Thus, the Tourist Apartment Price Index (IPAP) rose 6.7% in November compared to the same month in 2021, the Campsite Price Index (IPAC) 4.4% and the Rural Tourism Price Index (IPTR ) 3.8%.

In conclusion, overnight stays in all Spanish collective tourist accommodation (hotels, apartments, campsites, rural tourism accommodation and hostels) increased by 16.3% in November in the annual rate. Those of residents increased by 12.5% ​​and those of non-residents by 18.7%.

The average stay grew by 0.4%, up to 3.1 overnight stays per traveller, according to INE data.

Of the total overnight stays in collective tourist accommodation, 74.8% corresponded to hotels and 25.2% to non-hotel tourist accommodation.

The main source markets for regulated tourist accommodation as a whole are the British (with 24.3% of all non-resident overnight stays), German (16.9%) and French (6.5%).

The Canary Islands is the preferred destination, with more than 7.7 million overnight stays (11.1% more than in November 2021). They are followed by Andalusia, with more than 3.4 million (and an increase of 14.5%) and Catalonia, with more than 2.9 million (and an annual increase of 29.5%).
