Swept by strong winds, Pointe des Châteaux seems to me the place par excellence to admire a sunrise in the Guadeloupe archipelago. This long rocky spit of limestone sedimentary formation juts out into the Atlantic Ocean, eroded by the harshness of the elements. Don't be fooled by its name... You won't find any castles here. Its name is attributable to the religious community of the Capuchins who established their parish there. Nevertheless, failing to fall on a castle, immense cliffs act as a natural cathedral.

For my last morning in Guadeloupe, I leave my accommodation at the Relais du Moulin before dawn. The weather looks promising. No clouds mask the horizon, or almost. In less than 25 minutes, I am wandering the path by the light of my headlamp. I see the cross that sits on the highest point along with a few clouds, which add a bit of color to this impressive panorama. More than 500,000 visitors roam this site annually in search of photos. Fortunately, the crowds are less crowded at dawn, as the future belongs to those who get up early!
