A cyclist was in critical condition on Saturday evening after being hit by a vehicle on Route 265 between Plessisville and Notre-Dame-de-Lourdes, in Centre-du-Québec.

The accident occurred around 8:30 p.m. when the person riding a bicycle on the northbound road collided with a vehicle traveling in the same direction, said Sûreté du Québec spokesman Nicolas Scholtus.

The victim, whose identity is not yet known, was transported to a hospital center where we fear for his life.

A collision investigation officer was expected at the scene to determine the causes and circumstances of the event.

Traffic alternated on Route 265.
