Porsche and Vodafone develop a 5G infrastructure for intelligent vehicles

MADRID, 12 Dic. (EUROPA PRESS) -

Porsche Engineering and Vodafone Business have developed Europe's first 5G Hybrid Mobile Private Network (MPN) to drive technological innovation and vehicle connectivity, the car company said in a statement.

The new network infrastructure has been installed in the Nardò Technical Center (Italy), which is owned by Porsche, and offers 4G and 5G coverage in the 700 hectares that make up this space.

With this new network, the clients of this test center are allowed to develop a wide range of applications for the business, including new forms of connectivity and vehicle autonomy. In addition, a wider bandwidth and real-time communication service is provided.

"With the new 5G network, this center now offers its customers an even better infrastructure for developing and testing intelligent, autonomous and connected vehicles," said Peter Schäfer, CEO of Porsche Engineering and Chairman of the Shareholders' Committee of the Porsche Technical Center. Nard.

The new system consists of a hybrid infrastructure that integrates a private 5G network into Vodafone's public mobile network. With this, the local population of the Italian municipality will also be able to benefit from faster and safer navigation.

The Nardó Technical Center, together with the new 5G network, provides its customers with a high-performance connection of one gigabit per second, thus facilitating a faster and more direct connection to the cloud.

"At Nardò, MPN technology enables a facility that resembles a real smart city, with seamless coverage on and off campus for the next generation of applications that will transform transportation and mobility," said Vinod Kumar, Counselor Vodafone Business delegate.

Since Porsche's acquisition of the Nardò Technical Center in 2012, the car company has driven modernization and technological development with investments in more advanced workshops, safety systems and test tracks. In addition, in 2021 they already established a 5G network at the Porsche Development Center in Weissach (Germany).
