A police operation had been underway since 9 a.m. on Tuesday because of a tenant who was in possession of explosives in Dolbeau-Mistassini, in Lac-Saint-Jean.

As a preventive measure, the dozen residents of a building with nine apartments on rue Touzin were evacuated.

A team of explosives technicians was dispatched from Quebec. She arrived there in the early afternoon.

An investigation is underway to determine the validity of the information. The suspect is currently being interviewed by investigators.

A security perimeter has been erected. The Sûreté du Québec and investigators are on site to search the premises. The use of a dog team was considered in order to use a dog handler and his dog. Their presence was ultimately deemed unnecessary.
