“François Legault buys votes. François Legault is the worthy successor of Maurice Duplessis,” denounced Liberal economics critic Marc Tanguay.

“Duplessis gives to his province,” quipped the MP for LaFontaine, mocking the promise made by the Prime Minister, and the amount of $500 granted in the last budget to taxpayers who earn less than $100,000.

“Beyond the $500, there, let him tell us about what is his strategy, which is non-existent, for the shortage of housing, the shortage of childcare places, access to a doctor of family, (...) of the shortage of manpower", suggested Mr. Tanguay.

The spokesperson for Québec solidaire, Gabriel Nadeau-Dubois, is already convinced that the strategy of sending a new check to taxpayers, like that favored by the CAQ, “it does not work”.

“François Legault manages the cost of living crisis as we manage potholes in Quebec: he patches. So he patches the pothole, he sends a check, then six months later he finds out that it didn't work, then he repatches the pothole with another check. It will not get us out of the cost of living crisis,” said Mr. Nadeau-Dubois.

Never seen"

In 25 years of political commitment, PQ MP Pascal Bérubé points out that he “has never seen such a thing”.

“Do we want to buy Quebecers,” raised the member for Matane-Matapédia, recalling that it is “currently” that Quebecers are suffering from the increase in the price of gasoline, the tariffs of electricity and grocery cart.

“The challenge that is launched to the Prime Minister, (…) if it is important, do it now, suggested Mr. Bérubé. But we cannot say to Quebeckers who are suffering: “Well, we know that you are suffering, but we will have to elect us to have access to money”. It's not correct. »

Asked what his party is proposing exactly, PQ leader Paul St-Pierre Plamondon confirmed that he too will commit to helping Quebecers, "but it won't be conditional on the results of the election and that should never be, otherwise it becomes grotesque,” he said.

"I think we have to see the value of this electoralist approach for what it is: (...) a very, very incomplete and very, very dubious way of settling serious problems, that is to say that of the cost of living. We are going to come up with smart solutions to help Quebecers in terms of the cost of living as a whole,” let the leader of the Parti québécois hover.
