Red Sox: One more season for Rafael Devers

The Boston Red Sox reportedly signed third baseman Rafael Devers to a one-year contract extension on Tuesday.

This was reported by the ESPN network. By signing the bottom of this one-year, $17.5 million pact, the 26-year-old star athlete will avoid a salary arbitration session.

The Boston formation would also seek to find long-term common ground with Devers, who has worn the colors of the Red Sox since the 2017 season. He could still achieve complete autonomy after the 2023 campaign.

Last season, Devers batted .295 in 555 appearances on the plate. He drove in 88 runs and hit 27 long balls in 2022.

The Dominican, who was never drafted, appeared twice in the All-Star Game. He averaged .283 in 689 career games.

Red Sox general manager Brian O'Halloran has had one of the most eventful summers. It was unable to retain key players Xander Bogaerts and Nathan Eovaldi, but made up for their loss by acquiring Corey Kluber, Kenley Jansen, Chis Martin, Joely Rodriguez, Justin Turner and Masataka Yoshida.

The Massachusetts team had a miserable 2022 season, finishing last in the All-American East Division by virtue of a 78-84 record.
