Renfe increased the number of passengers transported by 35% in the first two months of the year compared to the same period in 2022, which represents an increase of more than 20.5 million new customers, reaching a total of 78.6 million of passengers.

In January and February of this year, both the Cercanías and Media Distancia and Avant trains, which have free passes for frequent travelers, as well as the AVE, Avlo, Alvia, Euromed and Intercity services, have managed to increase mobility in Renfe services.

The use of the Spanish company's trains has made it possible to reduce the circulation of more than 50 million private vehicles and avoid the corresponding emission of carbon dioxide (CO2), as reported by the company in a statement.

The public company is chesting these results at a time when it is facing the progressive entry of competition from Ouigo and Iryo into its main corridors. In this sense, Renfe will make its Avlo 'low cost' trains stop at all stations to face this competition, although AVE services will not be reduced.

In a conference organized by 'El Economista', the new president of Renfe, Raül Blanco, has assured that the entry of new operators is "good news for the country", although he has highlighted that Renfe concentrates 57% of the seats, which allows it to mobilize 61% of travelers.

Blanco has detailed the company's plan to defend this market share and the service that Renfe provides through the purchase of new trains, like the more than 300 ordered and that are already being manufactured, with the forecast of putting them into circulation between 2025 and 2026.

Regarding the waiting for the Avril de Talgo trains (series 106), Blanco hopes that good news will come this year in this regard and that they can finally be put into circulation, which will make it possible to materialize the Avlo commitment in all high-speed corridors. speed.
