Renfe has issued more than 1.6 million free passes in September to travel on Cercanías, Rodalies and Media Distancia until December 31, 2023, as reported this Sunday in a press release.

Of the total number of free tickets issued, nearly 1.2 million correspond to passes for travel in the different centers of Cercanías, Rodalies and Cercanías Ancho Métrico, while more than 400,000 are Media Distancia tickets.

In addition to the free passes for regular travelers, Renfe has sold nearly 40,000 tickets with discounts of 50% from Avant to use these services.

This same discount applies to other high-speed routes that have been declared Public Service Obligation (OSP), which operate under the same conditions as an Avant voucher.

The Cercanías 'app' allows the acquisition of recurring Cercanías and Rodalies subscriptions, generating a QR code that is downloaded to the mobile phone and which can later be used in station access control. Likewise, Media Distancia passes can also be purchased through the Renfe website.

To acquire the subscription, although it is free, it is necessary to deposit a deposit of 10 euros in the case of Cercanías and Rodalies, and 20 euros for each conventional Media Distancia service.

Payment by card allows the automatic refund of the deposit, once it is confirmed that the condition of having made 16 trips during these four months has been met.
