Renfe KSA offers one million seats to pilgrims from Mecca and Medina during the special Ramadan plan

MADRID, 26 Mar. (EUROPA PRESS) -

Renfe KSA, the Saudi branch of the Spanish operator, offers from this Sunday until April 25, more than one million seats between Mecca and Medina, due to the special Ramadan plan.

During the days of maximum demand, more than 100 trains will circulate daily, to meet the mobility needs of residents and pilgrims who travel between both sacred cities. This is the largest programming of services carried out to date by the Haramain high-speed line , which provides commercial activity since October 2018.

The special Ramadan plan, during the days with the highest passenger influx forecast, will mean increasing the line's current commercial offer by more than 50 percent. Currently, the Haramain High Speed Railway provides an average of 66 daily services between Mecca and Medina, stopping at Central Jeddah, KAIA (Jeddah King Abdulaziz International Airport) and KAEC (King Abdullah Economic City) stations.

Likewise, the company reports that they are recovering night services to meet the mobility needs of travelers after iftar (daily breaking of the fast during the month of Ramadan). To this end, the commercial programming has been extended with daily services until 5:30 in the morning and the opening hours of the five stations have been extended, which will remain open 24 hours a day during the key days of the month.

On the other hand, the Haramain High Speed Railway railway line continues, in this way, with the gradual increase of its offer since its start-up. In the nearly five years in operation, the Saudi high-speed line has received more than 6.8 million passengers.

This line was out of service for approximately a year at the request of the Saudi Arabian authorities as a result of the measures adopted to limit the spread and contagion of COVID-19. Since the reactivation of the operation after the pandemic (March 31, 2021) to date, more than 28,000 services have been offered, with an average punctuality of 96 percent.

Simultaneously, SAR (Saudi Arabia Railways) has signed a collaboration protocol with the airline Saudia to offer combined services and introduce new initiatives aimed at improving the overall travel experience.
