MADRID, 6 Nov. (EUROPA PRESS) -
Renfe will execute before the end of 2022 the option to purchase 101 additional Cercanías and Media Distancia trains, within the framework of the fleet renewal plan provided for in the company's Strategic Plan, as reported by the company.
Of the total of 101 additional trains that Renfe will buy, 69 are high-capacity Cercanías trains (manufactured by the Stadler and Alstom companies) and 32 Medium-Distance trains (manufactured by CAF).
The company indicates that, after the Government's authorization to increase the debt limit for this year by 879.3 million euros, in a bid to strengthen public transport, Renfe began talks with the manufacturers to finalize the purchase of the additional trains, whose contracts will be submitted to the Board of Directors and are expected to be signed in the coming weeks.
The railway company is in the process of renewing its fleet, both for Cercanías and Media Distancia as well as High Speed, with the aim of having a more modern, efficient and sustainable train fleet.
With the forthcoming acquisition of additional Cercanías and Media Distancia trains, Renfe's fleet renewal plan now exceeds 5,400 million euros. This investment effort will provide 519 new High-Speed, Suburban, Medium-Distance and Metric Gauge trains, as well as High-Speed and Goods locomotives.
