Revenge of the travellers: where to go on vacation this summer?

After the forced break of the pandemic, Quebec travelers can now travel to nearly 200 countries or territories, according to the latest compilation from Flytrippers, a site dedicated to air deals.

The situation is also simplifying for unvaccinated Canadian travelers, who are admitted to nearly 65 destinations without testing or quarantine, and who will be able to board a plane in Canada again from Monday.

Quebecers will therefore be spoiled for choice. Here is what experts in the travel industry suggest and note.

THE POPULAR UNITED STATES

According to CAA-Quebec's recent annual survey of vacation intentions, the United States is the most popular destination for Quebecers, after Quebec and the Canadian provinces.

The favorite states? We are talking about Florida (22%), New York (21%), Maine (20%), Massachusetts (14%) and California (13%).

Andrew D'Amours, co-founder of Flytrippers, however, observes a price increase. "It's not just plane tickets, it's hotels that are overpriced, rental cars. Price-wise, it's not the best summer to go to the United States."

LOVED EUROPE

Europe is a summer darling of Quebecers. “There are many Quebecers who are wondering if it is time to go to Europe with what is happening in Ukraine, notes Gitane Charron, director of the travel agency Jesuisvoyageur. The answer is yes, there is still time to go. A lot of people are going to Western Europe right now. Portugal, Spain, France: it’s super popular and safe.”

According to Transat, which offers 25 European destinations this summer, the costs are still attractive. "At the moment, according to Bernard Côté, director of public relations, our prices in Europe are in many cases comparable to 2019. For people who want to go there, it's really a good window."

ASIA STILL ON BREAK

The situation is still quite difficult in Asia, and there are still few flights.

According to Gitane Charron, it may be better to wait before going there. “There are several countries in Asia where entry restrictions are still very severe and complicated, so some cruise lines have for example decided to cancel the entire next year in this region of the world.”
