The Russian statistical agency Rosstat will publish this Wednesday, February 22, its preliminary estimate of the evolution of the gross domestic product (GDP) corresponding to the year 2022, when its publication was previously scheduled for February 17.

In statements to the Russian agency Interfax, Rosstat explained that the delay in the publication of the GDP data for 2022 was due to "technical reasons".

"Due to a technical failure, a series of indicators had to be recalculated, which led to the postponement of the publication's launch," explained a representative of the Russian statistical institute.

In this way, the publication of the GDP data for Russia in 2022 will be known one day after Russian President Vladimir Putin delivers his traditional speech before both chambers of the Parliament of the Russian Federation, postponed in December 2022.

The latest forecasts from the Bank of Russia point to a drop in GDP in 2022 of 2.5% and an improvement this year to a range between -1% and an expansion of 1%, compared to the previous contraction range of between 1% and 4%.

For its part, the Ministry of Economic Development forecast in September a drop in GDP in 2023 of 0.8%, although the Minister of Economic Development himself, Maxim Reshetnikov, has already stated that the current estimates for 2023 are more optimistic.
