Samuel-De Champlain Bridge: major hindrance after a serious collision

Nearly three out of four northbound lanes were closed Saturday night on the Samuel-De Champlain Bridge toward Montreal after a pickup truck hit a motorcyclist, who was seriously injured in the accident.

The collision occurred around 7:30 p.m. heading north when the motorcyclist was hit by the other vehicle, said Sûreté du Québec spokesperson Stéphane Tremblay.

The motorcyclist was taken to a hospital center, but his state of health was still unknown in the evening.

The driver of the pickup was arrested for driving while impaired by alcohol.

A collision reconstructionist must attend the scene to try to determine the circumstances of the event.

The sector is to be avoided, while the Jacques-Cartier Bridge is closed until 11:30 p.m. due to the fireworks scheduled for this evening in Montreal.
