Even though the Roberval defender hasn't played since due to an injury that sidelined him since the second round of the playoffs, he still got his lap of honor on the ice brandishing the prestigious trophy.

“How do we feel? We feel tired!” joked Guylaine Dion at Salut Bonjour, on the TVA network, Monday morning.

"It's full of emotions that we live. Yesterday was like a movie rewinding. We saw Samuel in his early days until he took the cup. It was really special.”

Nicknamed “The tornado of Roberval”, younger, Girard said he dreamed of the cup after signing his seven-year, $ 35 million contract, initialed in 2019, he who did not believe one day become an athlete who collects millions.

"It's a dream of a young hockey player. We put so much effort into it, says Samuel Girard's father, Tony. It's a dream come true. On the ice he waved to us by putting his hand to his heart, as if to say "it's thanks to you too". It was crazy."

Of course, no contract or salary can replace a conquest.

“We always hoped, adds Guylaine Dion. This is what each player has his goal. It is to find it, that cut. We didn't think he would after five years in the National League! Especially when you know that there are players who have had careers of 10 or 15 years and who have never been able to lift it.

"I can tell you that we were very proud yesterday."

He resumed training

Injured in the sternum, Girard ignored the pain to join his teammates celebrating on the ice rink at Amalie Arena in Tampa.

"I told him 'hey! Didn't you hurt your sternum, did you?' and he said "I think it's adrenaline!". He told me that it was as if the evil was no longer there. He was so happy."

Guylaine Dion took the opportunity to add that Girard's recovery is going well and that he has resumed training "quietly" to be ready for the start of the next season.

Until then, festivities are expected in Robverval this summer, when Samuel Girard arrives with the Stanley Cup.

“If it’s as crazy as tonight, it’s going to be sick! I'm not worried that there will be a big party in Roberval! It's going to be fun with good people and good people from everywhere, ”promises Tony.
