A minor girl is currently fighting for her life after being hit head-on by a vehicle as she crossed the street in Matane on Wednesday afternoon.
The incident occurred on Saint-Jérôme Avenue, between the Promenade des captains and Otis Street around 4:15 p.m. According to the Sûreté du Québec (SQ), the victim aged over 10 would have crossed the street at a place that was not intended for this purpose.
“The underage girl was transported to the hospital center where there are fears for her life,” said SQ spokeswoman Catherine Bernard.
The driver of the vehicle, aged in her 60s, escaped without injury, but she was still taken to hospital for treatment of nervous shock.
A collision scene reconstructionist went to the scene to analyze the scene and understand the circumstances of the event.
Apart from the location of the crossing which was not adequate, the authorities do not prioritize any particular hypothesis as to the reasons which led to the impact.
The section of road involved in the collision has been closed to traffic to allow investigators to do their job.
