The President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, lamented this Wednesday the death at the age of 95 of the historic UGT union leader Nicolás Redondo Urbieta, whom he thanked for his "key" role in democracy and for labor rights.

"Nicolás Redondo leaves us, a key figure in the history of our democracy. An example of a committed fight for the advancement of workers' rights and our welfare state," Sánchez transmitted in a message on Twitter, stating "everything "his love for family, friends and colleagues.

UGT has announced in the last hours the death of the one who was general secretary between 1976 and 1994 of the syndicate and has highlighted him as an "essential figure of trade unionism in Spain during the dictatorship, the transition and democracy".

For her part, the Government spokesperson and Minister of Territorial Policy, Isabel Rodríguez, highlighted the commitment of the trade unionist and his generation, who did "everything possible" so that today they can enjoy rights and freedoms.
