The Pittsburgh Water and Sewer Authority on Saturday advised customers in some eastern areas of the city to allow cold water to flow from their faucets for several minutes before using.

A mechanical failure at the Bruecken pump station resulted in a temporary pressure loss for eastern-area customers, and although the pump was returned to service and water pressure levels are back to normal, some customers may see brown or discolored water, PWSA said.

Crews are opening hydrants to clear discolored water from the system, according to PWSA.

Customers can call the authority at 412-255-2423 if they are experiencing a water emergency.
