The quality of the fishing lakes at the Pavillon des Portes de l’Enfer, in the Laurentides wildlife reserve, has always been the site’s trademark. This summer more than ever, fans are delighted.

Some anglers who read this column will disagree because they struggled. But overall, this site is having one of its best seasons in terms of fishing results.

I went fishing at the Gates for a special day. I was accompanying the winner of the Fondation de la faune auction, Claude Tavara, who had won the bet to spend a day fishing with me. It was the second time he had won the auction.

We fished on Lake Thérèse, a lake very well known to fishermen who frequent the area. It only took us two and a half hours to catch the 30 trout we were entitled to.

VERY GOOD SEASON

When we returned to the reception desk, we spoke with the manager, Marc Laperrière. He told us that the successful fishing has been going on for longer this season.

“The temperature causes the water in the lakes to be colder. Trout always bite very well. We really have a very good season. »

Personally, I fished with a sinking line, with a leader and two flies, two different models of Muddler Minnow, one conventional brown and the other with a red tail and a small white wing on top. The enraged trout jumped on it. My companion was using a spinning rod with a silver and bronze Lake Clear at the end. He too had a flurry of trout on his line. Several specimens reached half a pound.

REJUVENATION CURE

The management of the Laurentides wildlife reserve has decided to rejuvenate its facilities in the area.

"We have a renovation project that will span several years," explained the manager. What we have achieved this season is mainly the renovation of the dining room, inside and outside, as well as the staff accommodation part which is located on the second floor of the building. We are finishing the renovation of the reception desk. The corporate camp has also been revamped. »

Some improvements have also been made to the chalets.

"For chalets 4 and 5, which are attached to the dining room, the windows have been changed and the bathrooms have also been redone. For the other chalets, all the beds and mattresses have been changed as well as the decoration. We wanted to breathe new life into the cabins while improving the comfort of our fishermen. »

MEAL

The packages are always offered in American plan. However, there have been significant changes.

“For the dining room, in the evening, the service starts at 6:30 p.m., until 8 p.m. For lunches, in the morning, they are delivered directly to the fishermen's chalets, following the choice they made the day before. For those who wish, evening fishing is possible. They must arrive at their cabin by 8 a.m. Dinner service in their chalet is possible until 8:30 p.m.

For noon, a cold lunch is offered. If you decide to go for a shore lunch, it is your responsibility.

“This season, there is no longer a guide service at the Portes, specifies the manager. So, the fisherman has the choice to eat the lunch that we provide him or, if he wants to have a shore lunch, he must organize himself to have everything necessary with him. We only provide anglers with the grid and wood. »

Marc Laperrière adds that his men have only one mission with visitors to the reserve so that they enjoy a quality stay.

“I am very proud of my team who have only one motto, to help people have a fishing experience worthy of the Gates of Hell. »
