Who makes the most in Pennsylvania's state government? Pennlive.com answers that and other questions with its annual review of state workers who make more than $100,000 a year.
A total of 7,576 state government employees had six-figure earnings in 2016. Harrisburg-based Pennlive has them all broken down in a searchable database.
The top earner who's still with the state is the chief investment officer for the Public School Employees' Retirement System. He made nearly $370,000 last year.
Others in the $300,000-plus club include the chancellor of the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education, the president and CEO of the Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Agency and doctors at some of the state hospitals.
The retired director of the state police's Bureau of Forensic Services got a nearly $309,000 payout in 2016, including his his salary and unused sick and annual leave.
In all, about one in 14 state government employees earned more than $100,000 in 2016. The total was actually fewer than the number in the roughly 107,000-member workforce who made the list last year, pennlive.com reported.
