According to initial information, the Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu Police Department was called shortly after 2 a.m. about a man indicating to 911 that he had just committed the irreparable.

When they rushed to the individual's home on rue Biat, the police were confronted by a man armed with a knife, the BEI said.

In the aftermath, shots were fired and the 40-year-old was hit by at least one projectile. He was transported to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Inside the residence, a woman and a teenage boy were found with serious injuries. They were taken to hospital and there are serious fears for the life of the woman.

Another person inside the home was not injured.
