The body was discovered by Sûreté du Québec divers around 2:20 p.m., not far from where the man had disappeared.

According to relatives who accompanied him, he was the victim of a malaise.

Reports suggest that the victim was not wearing a life jacket when sinking into the water.

We will have to wait for the coroner's inquest to learn more about the circumstances of this first drowning to occur in Estrie this year.

Spooner Pond is a small private lake that extends over a length of approximately one kilometer and is located at the boundaries of the municipalities of the Township of Cleveland and Saint-Félix-de-Kingsey.

The members of the family of the septuagenarian followed the research from the shore and preferred not to be identified or to comment on this drama.

According to unofficial data from the Quebec Lifesaving Society, this would be the 28th drowning to occur in Quebec in 2022.

There are two in winter, two others in the pool and 24 in open water.

This is one less drowning than on the same date last year.
