Heavy downpours potentially saved the Schaumburg Boomers from a humiliation at Stade Canac on Sunday, but they still lost 7-1 to the Capitales de Québec.

The game was stopped after just four and a half innings due to rain, but one can guess that the weather was a source of relief rather than frustration for the visitors.

From the first set, Jeffry Parra - author of a grand slam on Saturday - continued his momentum by hitting a productive double at the expense of Shumpei Yoshikawa (4-7). Tristan Pompey crossed home plate on the streak.

Kyle Crowl added some moments later, reaching second base in turn. He allowed Jonathan Lacroix and T.J. White to score, making it 3-0 from the start.

After muzzling the Caps sluggers in the second inning, his only happy moment of the game, Yoshikawa made two costly mistakes that put the game out of reach. White first dispatched one of his offerings out of bounds to drive in two runs. Then, on their last turn at bat before the game was called off, the hosts saw Garrett Takamatsu add two more runs to the board by stretching his arms.

The only gunner employed by Patrick Scalabrini, Michael Austin (7-2) was imperative on the mound. He allowed just three hits and one earned run in five innings, during which he passed four batters in the mitt.

Cosimo Cannella drove in the Boomers' lone run. He soloed a long ball in the fifth inning to cut the lead to six runs...but the Illinois team's potential comeback was abruptly halted by Mother Nature.

The Capitals thus won this series after having bowed out in the first of three duels on Friday. They will look to extend their success when they host the Lake Erie Crushers on Thursday.
