The CGT sees the rise of the SMI to 1,080 euros per month as "very insufficient"

MADRID, 6 Feb. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The General Confederation of Labor (CGT) has described this Monday as "very insufficient" the increase in the minimum interprofessional wage (SMI) up to 1,080 euros per month agreed between the Ministry of Labor and CCOO and UGT.

The anarcho-syndicalist organization has warned in a statement that this increase, of 8% in relative terms, does not compensate for the loss of purchasing power that has occurred as a result of inflation, since it does not "even" reach the average inflation of 2022 ( 8.4%)

"With a salary of 1,080 euros it is very difficult to live. In terms of purchasing power, workers with SMI will see their salary increase in nominal terms, but in real terms they will suffer a loss of purchasing power of 0.4%," he alleges. .

For the CGT, "forceful measures" are needed so that companies raise wages at the same level as inflation and thus prevent workers from losing purchasing power.

Likewise, the anarcho-syndicalist organization criticizes that the CCOO and UGT celebrate the rise in the SMI and at the same time are signing collective agreements with wage increases "well below the CPI and in which job insecurity is the norm."

"We are in favor of raising the SMI, but we want it to be comparable to those of other European countries and to be accompanied by measures against the structural precarious conditions suffered by workers and, especially, women workers," stresses the CGT.
