The CNMC opens a document on the difficulties to deploy renewables in Spanish municipalities for consultation

MADRID, 17 Feb. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The National Commission for Markets and Competition (CNMC) has prepared a working document that identifies the problems for the deployment of large renewable infrastructure projects on land and self-consumption facilities due to the intervention of local public entities, and has open a public consultation until next March 15 to know the opinion of the interested parties.

The organization recalls that the deployment of renewable energy facilities is a priority for local entities that aspire to meet the objectives of the ecological transition, but there are multiple obstacles that affect their development.

Aspects such as the difficulty in identifying suitable land for the location of the facilities, the heterogeneity of municipal regulations, the duplication of some procedures or the delay in response times to requests make it difficult to deploy these facilities.

For this reason, and as part of the Municipalities and Competition project, the CNMC has prepared said working document, which is also out for public consultation.

Among the possible solutions that the CNMC preliminarily identifies are improving the information available to agents regarding the most suitable areas for their location, reinforcing the institutional structures available to local entities for the processing of projects and seeking ways to improve the benefits of renewables on local communities.
