The Community of Madrid, the Basque Country and the Valencian Community lead the ranking of British investment in Spain

MADRID, 8 Mar. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The Community of Madrid, the Basque Country and the Valencian Community have led the ranking of British investment in Spain during the first nine months of 2022, according to figures from the 'VIII Barometer on climate and prospects for British investment in Spain', developed jointly by the British Chamber of Commerce in Spain and International Financial Analysts (Afi).

In this sense, the Community of Madrid received until September 2022 more than 3,300 million euros in terms of the flow of British foreign direct investment (FDI), followed by the Basque Country and Catalonia, with 692 and 184 million euros, respectively.

In this same period of time, Catalonia achieved a figure of 177 million euros, while the Balearic Islands recorded 54.1 million euros.

By sectors, British investment has concentrated on the sports sector in the Community of Madrid and in the manufacture of other non-metallic mineral products, as well as creative, artistic and show activities in the Valencian Community.

For its part, investment in Catalonia has focused on the field of graphic arts, as in the Basque Country, while the Balearic Islands stands out for the investment made in the tourism sector.

Likewise, British investment has been characterized by its territorial diversification, and there are already five autonomous communities, in addition to Comunidad Valenciana and Castilla León, in which the representation of British investment has exceeded 15% of the total flows received: Balearic Islands (25.5%), Region of Murcia (20.9%), Andalusia (17.7%), the Basque Country (17.5%) and La Rioja (15.4%).

According to the barometer, the flow of British investment in Spain has increased since 2015, despite the referendum to leave the European Union (EU), the Covid health crisis and the start of the war between Russia and Ukraine.
