The CPI in France rebounds in January to 6%

The French Consumer Price Index (CPI) stood at 6% in January, after the 5.9% year-on-year rise observed in December 2022, according to the provisional estimate made by the National Institute of Statistics and Studies Economic (Insee).

This slight increase in inflation in the first month of 2023 responds to the acceleration in food prices, which increased by 13.2%, compared to 12.1% in December, and energy prices, with a increase of 16.3%, compared to 15.1% of the previous month.

On their side, the prices of manufactured goods have increased by 4.6%, the same rate as in the previous month. Likewise, the rise in the price of services prices has slowed to 2.6% from 2.9% in December 2022.

In monthly terms, consumer prices have risen 0.4% in January 2023, after falling 0.1% in December last year.

In the case of the Harmonized CPI, used in its statistics by Eurostat, a rise to 7% has been observed in January 2023, after 6.7% in December 2022. In a monthly rate, the harmonized index has risen by 0. 4%, after -0.1% in the previous month.
