The creation of companies fell by 2.7% in October and the dissolutions increased by 8.8%

The number of new commercial companies fell by 2.7% in October compared to the same month in 2021, reaching a total of 7,149 companies, according to data released this Thursday by the National Institute of Statistics (INE).

With the drop in October, the creation of companies returned to negative rates after experiencing an interannual increase of 3.3% in September.

For the constitution of the 7,149 companies created in October, almost 192.2 million euros were subscribed, which is 5.8% less than in the same month of 2021, while the average subscribed capital, which stood at 26,883 euros, fell 3.2% year-on-year.

While the creation of companies fell, in October the dissolution of companies increased, 8.8% compared to the same month last year, up to a total of 1,919, which means that every day of October they stopped operating in Spain 62 companies.

In the first ten months of the year, 3% fewer companies have been incorporated than in the same period of 2021 and 9.1% more companies have disappeared.

Of the 1,919 companies that closed their doors in October, 76.1% did so voluntarily, 11.6% due to a merger with other companies and the remaining 12.3% for other reasons.

19% of the mercantile companies that were created in the tenth month of the year were dedicated to commerce and 16.9% to real estate, financial and insurance activities. Regarding the companies dissolved by main economic activity, the highest percentages are also found in real estate, finance and insurance (19.5%) and in commerce (17.3%).

For its part, the number of commercial companies that increased capital increased by 5% in October, to 2,045 companies. The capital subscribed in these increases exceeded 1,400 million euros, a figure 3.5% higher than that of October 2021, while the average capital was 685,013 euros, 1.4% less.

MADRID AND CATALONIA LEAD THE CREATION OF COMPANIES

The communities that created the greatest number of companies in October were Madrid (1,655 companies), Catalonia (1,415) and Andalusia, where 1,244 companies were created. The regions that incorporated the fewest companies in the tenth month of the year were La Rioja (27), Cantabria (50) and Navarra (52).

Thirteen regions created fewer companies in October than in the same month of 2021. The greatest annual decreases occurred in Extremadura (-24.1%), Navarra (-20%), Murcia (-18%) and Castilla-La Mancha (- 16.9%), while the only year-on-year increases were made by the Basque Country (23.4%), Catalonia (5%), Andalusia (3.5%) and the Valencian Community (1.7%).

Considering the dissolved commercial companies, the communities with the highest number of dissolutions in October were Madrid (745), Andalucía (237) and the Valencian Community (157). On the contrary, the autonomous communities with the fewest dissolved mercantile companies were Navarra (9), La Rioja (14) and Cantabria (20).

Eleven communities increased their number of business dissolutions in October, mainly Cantabria (81.8%), Murcia (80%) and Aragón (72.2%), while four cut it, led by Galicia (-8.3%) and Asturias (-7.7%), and two, Castilla-La Mancha and Catalonia, did not experience variation.

THE CREATION OF BUSINESSES INCREASES 4.5% IN MONTHLY RATE

In monthly terms (October over September), the formation of new companies rose 4.5%, its smallest increase this month in at least five years.

For their part, business dissolutions increased by 34.2% in October compared to the month of September, registering their smallest rise in this month since 2020, when the disappearance of companies fell by 2.2%.
