The creation of companies shoots up 15.6% in January and the dissolutions set a record since 2019

The number of new mercantile companies rose 15.6% last January compared to the same month in 2022, reaching a total of 9,472 companies, according to data released this Thursday by the National Institute of Statistics (INE).

With the rebound in January, the creation of companies returned to positive rates after experiencing an interannual decrease of 1.6% in December.

For the constitution of the 9,472 companies created last January, just over 553 million euros were subscribed, which is 9.9% more than in the same month of 2022, while the average capital subscribed, which stood at 58,388 euros, decreased by 4.9% year-on-year.

While the creation of companies increased, the dissolution of companies also grew in January, 5.8% compared to the same month in 2022, to a total of 3,931, the highest figure in four years, specifically since January 2019 In this way, every day of the month of January, 127 companies closed their doors in Spain.
