MADRID, 25 Oct. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The Government has approved a new energy efficiency plan endowed with 500 million euros to halve the electricity cost of the racing network in the long term, which currently reaches 145 million kilowatt hours (Kwh) for 30 million euros annual.

This was announced by the Minister of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda, Raquel Sánchez, at a press conference after the meeting of the Council of Ministers held this Tuesday, in which she assured that this plan will create more than 7,500 jobs.

The main objective of this action is to contribute to the fight against climate change through energy savings and investment in public spending efficiency measures in State infrastructures.

Sánchez has admitted that the initiatives carried out previously by the different governments to reduce this bill have not achieved the objectives set, so it has been necessary to reinforce the measures.

Among them, there are actions such as the installation of a new intelligent LED lighting that is capable of adjusting the intensity of the light based on the number of vehicles circulating at a given time along each stretch of road.

In addition, solar panels will be installed in the road maintenance centers for self-consumption, as well as solar farms to supply light to the tunnels, such as the one already active in the Alcantarilla tunnel (Murcia). The vehicle fleet of the General Directorate of Roads will also become zero emissions or 'ECO'.

The measures included in this plan, as reported by the minister, will contribute to saving more than 60,000 tons of carbon dioxide (CO2), which is equivalent to the annual emissions of 65,000 homes or 30,000 vehicles. Sánchez has stressed that these measures will guarantee safety on the road "at all times" and will not mean that there are dark or poorly marked sections.

On the other hand, the Ministry of Transport has also given the 'green light' to new subsidies for small and medium-sized companies (SMEs) for the transport of goods and passengers worth 110 million euros, which will be transferred before the end of the year to the autonomous communities.

The objective of this aid is to digitize and modernize this type of transport, from which up to 17,000 companies will benefit at a rate of 25,000 euros for each one to subsidize up to 100% of the initiatives they present.

Sánchez has pointed out that these subsidies will contribute to the creation of 3,600 jobs and will contribute 260 million euros to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP). Among the actions is the digitization of all the documentation related to the load to improve productivity.

These aids are added to those announced this Monday of 435.8 million euros destined for 69 public and private companies to develop projects for the decarbonization and digitization of freight transport.

Specifically, 117 projects of 98 applications will be subsidized within the framework of the recovery plan, aimed at improving the operations and efficiency of the sector, giving greater weight to less polluting modes, such as the railway, and transferring the digital and technological advances available.
