The household savings rate plunges to 7.2% in 2022, the lowest figure since 2018

MADRID, 31 Mar. (EUROPA PRESS) -

Spanish households in 2022 placed their savings rate at 7.2% of their disposable income, a rate 6.6 points lower than that registered in 2021 and the lowest since 2018, as reported this Friday by the National Institute of Statistics ( INE).

In a year marked by high inflation rates and a higher cost of living, Spanish families saved 58,457 million euros, 46% less than in 2021, while increasing their consumption spending by 11.5%, to 756,862 million euros, and increased their investment by 13.7%, up to 59,291 million euros.

In this way, households presented disposable income of 817,536 million euros in 2022, 3.6% more than in 2021.

The savings generated by households were insufficient to finance the investment they made throughout the year, which is why they showed a financing need of 1,753 million euros, compared to the financing capacity of 57,636 million in 2021.
