The Ibex 35 loses 1% in the mid-session

The Ibex 35 traded in the mid-session with a decrease of 1.05%, which brought it to stand at 9,337.5 integers, on a day in which the markets will once again be pending the intervention of the president of the Reserve United States Federal Reserve Bank (Fed), Jerome Powell, before the Senate Banking Committee.

Powell gave his 'hawkish' speech to the US Congress yesterday, affirming the need for high rates for a while to curb high inflation and that, in addition, there could be one or two more rate hikes compared to current levels, although these decisions will be guided by the data that becomes known.

Investors will also be watching the Bank of England (BoE) interest rate decision today, although the market is discounting a new rise of 25 basis points, going from 4.50% to 4.75%.

In Spain, it has been known that the number of mortgages constituted on homes fell by 18.3% in April compared to the same month in 2022, to a total of 27,053 loans, the lowest figure since December 2020, according to the data managed by the Institute National Statistics (INE). With this fall, the home mortgage firm chains three months of negative rates.

In this way, most of the Ibex 35 values ​​were in negative territory during the mid-session, with Acciona Energía (-2.09%), Banco Santander (-1.75%), Ferrovial (-1.67%) , CaixaBank (-1.64%), Indra (-1.48%) and Aena (-1.44%) as the most notable falls. In 'green' only Solaria (2.07%), Meliá (1.95%), Sacyr (1.33%), Colonial (0.54%) and Mapfre (0.28%) were placed.

The main European stock markets were also trading with a negative sign: 1.24% for Paris, 0.92% for Milan, 0.84% ​​for London and 0.56% for Frankfurt.

In the raw materials market, the price of a barrel of Brent quality oil, a reference for the Old Continent, stood at a price of 76.14 dollars, with a decrease of 1.27%, while Texas was trading at 71 .61 dollars, also down 1.27%.

In the foreign exchange market, the euro exchanged for 1.1 dollars, while the Spanish risk premium was around 94.2 points, with the interest demanded on the Spanish ten-year bond at 3.400%.
