The Ice Hotel opens its doors

The organization of the Hôtel de Glace is hopeful of having an excellent season, despite a delayed opening, rooms still being assembled and a chapel finalized just a few hours before the first wedding, held on Friday.

It was one to midnight on Friday at the Hôtel de Glace, located in Village Vacances Valcartier, while workers were working to finalize the final details of the chapel where the first wedding of the season was celebrated.

The opening also had to be delayed, due to the whims of Mother Nature.

The first visitors were expected on December 31 and the first overnight guests on January 4.

“What hurt a little more is that we had to postpone the official opening to January 3. We would have liked to open the 31, which was at the beginning the announcement that we had made, ”underlines Sandra Nadeau, vice-president of sales, marketing and communications of the establishment.

Ms. Nadeau recalls that, in previous years, the Hotel usually opened between Christmas and New Year's Day. But the ups and downs of the weather decided otherwise.

Moreover, only 10 of the 30 rooms are ready. The rest will be on January 16.

“And until January 16, it’s sold out,” explains Ms. Nadeau. From the 16th, we will have the 30 rooms and, from there, there is still room during the week, but Saturdays are already full for the season. »

almost normal

The organization is aiming for 1,000 overnight stays for the season.

"It would be a return to almost normal, like before the pandemic," she continues.

After the setbacks caused by the weather, the organization of the Hôtel de Glace breathed a sigh of relief when it was finally able to open its doors to visitors.

“The tourist clientele is really back, we saw it from the opening, delights Ms. Nadeau. We have a lot of foreign buses. It was expected, it seems. »

This enthusiasm bodes well for the rest of the winter.

“Here we go again and we really believe that the bad weather is behind us and that we will have a good season,” she ends.
