La Midinette marks a new page in the history of the presbytery of Saint-Jean-de-l'Île-d'Orléans, with the Monna sisters who inaugurated this new gourmet haunt on Thursday.

The notoriety of Cassis Monna

“Catherine and I are entrepreneurs. We like challenges and new projects. Cassis is working well and we are growing. We still have many projects to come, but we dreamed of another place on the island. We wanted to create a completely different universe. The opportunity arose when Dominique Brown contacted Catherine saying they wanted to sell the business,” said Anne Monna.

"While visiting the place, I fell in love," she added.

In the heart of the village of Saint-Jean, located just opposite the church and a few steps from the shore, the presbytery has long been a stop for visitors looking for a short break. A few owners have succeeded each other in the past, including the president of Chocolats Favoris.

Since the acquisition of this unique place by the two Monna sisters, the place has come back to life with La Midinette, which defines itself as a “fancy bakery and refreshment bar”. Of course, there will be a sale of homemade breads, pastries, pizzas and scones on site, but from noon, a small menu inspired by the islands and the beach will slowly take over with simple dishes to share, accompanied by wine, cocktails and mocktails.

This dream come true for the two sisters represents an investment of one million dollars.

“We have a lot of fun redefining this place, redecorating and reinventing the catering offer. It’s a magnificent playground”, continues Anne.

The two sisters have created an independent entity from Cassis Monna

Fortunately, they can count on the Cassis team to carry out this new project. Faced with the labor shortage, the family business must be imaginative. She has also acquired a residence near the Cassis Monna house
