The plaza and bronze bust honoring former Quebec premier Bernard Landry were unveiled Friday in Verchères, Montérégie.

The events began at the end of the morning when speeches took place at the Saint-François-Xavier church in Verchères.

"The exemplary patriot has today found his seat on the shores of his majestic St. Lawrence River in his Verchèroise lands in the heart of the new Place Bernard-Landry", indicated on Twitter Pierre Karl Péladeau, president and chief executive officer of Quebecor.

The leader of the Bloc Québécois and MP for the riding, Yves-François Blanchet, as well as the leader of the Parti Québécois, Paul St-Pierre Plamondon, were also present at the inauguration.

The creation of this square to pay tribute to the former prime minister who died in 2018 was announced last October. The fundraising campaign launched for this project to see the light of day had exceeded all expectations since more than $80,000 had been raised.
