MADRID, 8 Mar. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The personal image sector, made up of 84.6% by women, has demanded at the headquarters of the Ombudsman their support for the demand for the lowering of reduced VAT for the sector, according to the Alliance for the lowering of VAT to 10% in hairdressers in a statement.

Specifically, the concentration of hairdressers in front of the door of the Ombudsman headquarters has made it possible to request their mediation to claim the attention of the Government of Spain, after three years of requesting meetings and presenting reports to explain the critical situation that lives the sector before the Ministry of Finance and without having obtained a response.

During the meeting with the Ombudsman, Ángel Gabilondo, the representatives of the hairdressers, barbershops and beauty salons have revealed the "unfair treatment" they are receiving from the Government, as well as the succession of vetoes in the Congress of Deputies and Senate to the different votes aimed at recovering the reduced VAT in hairdressers, which has been supported by up to 24 political forces, with the exception of only the PSOE

The professional collective of personal image feels "doubly mistreated and marginalized" by the Government of Spain, since, their representatives say, it forgets its "essential character" as manifested during the most critical moments of the pandemic, providing a service of great social and psychological value, as one of the pillars of self-esteem.

However, they have denounced that personal image SMEs have been "on the brink of the abyss" for 11 years, with red numbers and a permanent setback in their economic viability" as a result of the fiscal plunder caused by the general VAT and that during the last four years it has destroyed and expelled from the labor market 40% of working women in hairdressing and beauty salons, according to data from the seventh wave of the Study of the Economic Situation of the personal image sector.

For his part, Ángel Gabilondo, who has received the workers from the hairdressing and beauty salons, has expressed his "interest and willingness to get involved" to alleviate the critical situation of personal image in Spain, activating a dialogue process that allows recapitulating all the information and data on the criticism of the section of the sector with the aim of activating the necessary collective bargaining with the Ministry of Finance.
