The Rocket in the Eastern Finals

The Laval Rocket got hot, but Jean-Sébastien Dea played the heroes in third overtime in a 6-5 win to send the Americans on vacation Wednesday in Rochester.

The Quebecer hurt his former team very badly by scoring this net, his second of the evening, on the power play. Brandon Davidson was in the penalty box for delaying the game when he saw Dea hit the target.

On the blue line, captain Xavier Ouellet handed over to the forward and he took an accurate shot as he approached the face-off circle to the left of Aaron Dell.

In a game where the two teams took the lead a few times before being in turn dominated, defensive play was the big star of the extra periods.

The Rocket had shown all their resilience in the second period by scoring four unanswered goals in 3:56 to erase a two-goal deficit and give themselves a similar cushion.

Brandon Gignac, Danick Martel, Ouellet and Dea have in turn deceived Dell's vigilance.

The Laval team had the same kind of trick played at the start of the third period as Brett Murray and JJ Peterka – with his second of the game – hit the target before two minutes of play were up in the third period.

Murray then gave the home favorites the lead, but Jesse Ylönen forced extra time by threading the needle with 67 seconds to go when Cayden Primeau retired to the bench in favor of a sixth skater.

If he did not offer the same performance as in recent games, Primeau still made some very important saves.

He ultimately made 34 saves, compared to an impressive 54 for Dell at the other end of the rink.

The Rocket will now face the winning team in the series between the Charlotte Checkers and the Springfield Thunderbirds.
