The Supreme Court refuses to hear the case of the environmental organization Environnement JEUnesse, which since 2018 has been bringing a class action against the federal government for “the insufficiency of its actions in the face of the climate emergency”.

As with any dismissal of cases, the Supreme Court justices did not provide an explanation for their decision.

“By refusing to hear this case, the Supreme Court of Canada leaves important questions unanswered, including whether or not Canada is violating the rights of young people to safety, equality and to live in a healthy environment. “said Environnement JEUnesse in a press release Thursday morning.

The motion was first dismissed by a Superior Court judge in 2019.

The class action was taken on behalf of “all young people aged 35 and under in Quebec”.
