MADRID, 14 Jun. (EUROPA PRESS) -

CC.OO. and the UGT consider that the 12,000 contracts proposed by the Post Office to handle voting by mail in the next general elections on July 23 are "insufficient", raising the necessary positions to 18,000.

The unions explain that 6,000 of those 12,000 workers will go to cover the vacations that part of the workforce has during those weeks, so they believe that a net reinforcement of 6,000 people will not allow the work overload that voting by mail entails.

In addition, according to both union formations, the expected applications of between 2.5 and 3 million voters to vote by mail, together with the decision of the Central Electoral Board to deliver them with ID identification, will slow down the procedures.

"An opportunity has been lost to give certainty and security to citizens in the electoral process," warn the unions.

CC.OO. and UGT also reject the compensation raised by the excess workload for the different groups of Correos that participate in the electoral process, considering that "they do not adequately recognize the extra effort that the staff has to make", although the compensation has improved compared to previous processes.
