The smartwatch manufacturer Fitbit (owned by Google) has been offering a sleep tracking function for a few years. And what's new today are the 10 new parameters to better understand and assess the quality of sleep.
Sleep isn't just a 7-8 hour rest - everyone is different. The folks at Fitbit rely on the analysis of 1.87 million sleep records by a neurologist, sleep experts, and research scientists.
Sleep profiles analyze sleep across 10 key metrics each month, calculate trends, and compare them to what's typical for your age and gender.
Whether it's new measures, like sleep schedule variability, time to deep sleep, and disturbed sleep, or measures already tracked, like sleep duration, rest, and REM sleep, these data points give a one month view of your sleep habits and quality so you can find out where you can improve.
Just wear the watch for at least 14 nights a month to get a rating. Fitbit clarifies that sleep can vary widely from night to night, so it's helpful to compare your sleep data over a longer period of time from your own sleep environment to uncover more information about your habits and how you can improve it.
The new sleep profiles are available with the Fitbit app (Android and iOS compatible) who will subscribe to the Premium service with Sense, Versa 3, Versa 2, Charge 5, Luxe or Inspire 2 devices.
Obviously, the sleep profiles service is not free. Fitbit Premium is free for the first three months (90 days), after which the subscription starts at $13.49 per month or $104.99 annually.
