Tourisme Bas-Saint-Laurent has also noted attendance records for certain tourist sites, such as the Pointe-au-Père Maritime Historic Site.

According to tourism stakeholders in the region, the success of the Bas-Saint-Laurent stems from its ability to innovate. Indeed, different sites in the region renew their offer each season. The Pointe-au-Père Maritime Historic Site, for example, is offering an interactive visit aboard the Onondaga submarine this year. To the east, a new distillery allows customers to watch the sun set over the river.

"It's part of our DNA to innovate and renew ourselves," explained the director general of the Maritime Historic Site, Hélène Théberge. We have to create interest for our customers.” The influx of tourists to the Bas-Saint-Laurent contrasts with that of other regions of Eastern Quebec, which are experiencing a slower start to the tourist season.

According to Tourisme Bas-Saint-Laurent, the region's proximity to major centres, such as Quebec and Montreal, combined with inflation and soaring gas prices, make the region much more attractive to tourists. ... and above all more affordable!

“For the past two years, Gaspésie and the Côte-Nord have been buried by tourists. There was a lot of traffic. People say to themselves “I have been there, we will go less far, gasoline is too expensive”, added Karine Lebel, spokesperson for Tourisme Bas-Saint-Laurent.
