Trump's Twitter insults: Jersey edition

Donald Trump's Twitter insults - as compiled and published this week by The New York Times - have taken aim at several targets with New Jersey ties.

Perhaps his most famous Jerseylicious joust was his exchange with New Jersey Senator Cory Booker, D-Newark, on July 25 following Booker's speech at the Democratic National Convention.

"If Cory Booker is the future of the Democratic Party, they have no future! I know more about Cory than he knows about himself."

To which, Booker, who famously used Twitter during his days as Newark mayor, told CNN, " I love Donald Trump, I'm going to say that." The remark was similar to tweets Booker had used in the past when people took to Twitter to criticize him.

And while Trump and New Jersey Governor are political allies now, here's what Trump tweeted Nov. 30 when they were rivals in the New Hampshire primary:

"How is Chris Christie running the state of N.J., which is deeply troubled, when he is spending all of his time in NH? New Jerseyans not happy!"

(Note the side dig there at the Garden State.)

Here are some other Trump insult tweets with Jersey connections

Willie Geist

The NBC Today show co-host and Ridgewood native.

Trump tweeted:

Paul Begala

The New Jersey-born former political advisor to Bill Clinton and Democratic commentator for CNN.

Trump tweeted:

New York Jets owner Woody Johnson has raised funds for Trump. But back when Johnson was finance chairman for GOP presidential rival Jeb Bush, Trump tweeted this in January after a Jets loss ended the team's playoff chances:

The Times first published its collection of insulting Trump tweets in January and then printed an updated edition across two pages of the paper this week.

NorthJersey.com and The Record did its own analysis of the 5,488 words contained in those tweets and came up with the following top 10 list of Trump's most-frequently used insults.

They are:
