The Spanish Tourism Institute (Turespaña) has signed a new sponsorship agreement with MADO Madrid Pride 2023 with the aim of promoting the international image of Spain as an open tourist destination with a diverse offer of leisure, culture, gastronomy and commerce for the LGTBIQ tourist.

With this sponsorship, Turespaña develops its strategy of increasing the international visibility of Spanish destinations, emphasizing those tourist themes and experiences that may be of special relevance to this group.

Within the framework of the agreement, Turespaña's international campaign 'You deserve Spain' can be viewed in various formats and supports throughout Pride week, publicizing Spanish experiences and destinations that tourists can enjoy.

Turespaña will participate in a meeting with representatives of influencers and international media specialized in LGTBIQ tourism and in the traditional MADO Awards that recognize the important work of personalities, associations and public and private institutions in favor of the LGTBIQ collective.

For Miguel Sanz, general director of Turespaña, "tourism has known how to adapt and open up to all segments, because it is an industry that seeks to make people happy without asking them who they are, what they want or where they are going."

Madrid Pride has become one of the events with the greatest international projection for the LGTBIQ segment and is the largest celebration of its kind in Europe. In 2022, MADO Orgullo brought together close to 2 million people in Madrid, with a preferential presence of international tourists, and a total expenditure of close to 400 million.

According to the UNWTO, LGTBIQ tourism moves more than 35 million travelers a year and is highly seasonal. In addition, it has a growth rate of 10.3% compared to 3.8% for conventional tourism. The best markets for tourists from this community are Germany, Spain and the United Kingdom.

Spain is one of the best tourist destinations in which the LGTBIQ tourist can enjoy the freedom and security of traveling: occupying the second position in the world ranking of safe destinations for this segment and the second country in the world as an LGTBIQ destination, behind of the United States (USA).

According to Turespaña, Spain is the country with the best quality of life for the group, since it offers the best vacation experience, in many destinations; the best festivals; a cultural tourist offer, shopping, haute cuisine and landscapes, and with infrastructures and high-end hotels and a fashion offer to enjoy.

In addition, Spain ranks third in Booking.com's ranking of Travel Proud certified accommodation countries, behind Italy and the United States.
