Two people were seriously injured in a face-off on Highway 50 near Lachute early Thursday evening.

Around 5:45 p.m. Thursday on Highway 50 West near Brownsburg-Chatham, in the Laurentians, “a pickup truck and a small vehicle suffered a head-on collision,” said SQ agent Nicolas Scholtus.

“Aboard the small vehicle, a person in critical condition, and we fear for his life. Another is seriously injured, ”said the spokesperson for the SQ. They were transported to a hospital.

The four passengers in the van suffered only minor injuries.

SQ investigators and reconstructionists were dispatched to the scene to determine the causes of the accident.

Highway 50 was closed in both directions from kilometer 252, rue Renault, to kilometer 239, route 344, for an indefinite period.

The detour is via route 148.
