The United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Türk, called on Friday to fight against hate and misinformation on the internet in 2023, prioritizing respect and empathy.

"My hope for next year is that we lead our lives, individually and collectively, with kindness, empathy and unity in our relationships with each other," Volker Türk said in a statement.

He called for sharing any disagreements on the internet with respect for others and making it a more dignified sphere of communication next year.

“I hope we will have the freedom to express ourselves, with the assurance of being protected against hatred and misinformation,” he said.

In 2023, "we must ensure that the rights of women, for example, are respected at home and in public, that women and girls enjoy full equality and are not victims of discrimination", a- he insisted.

On the environment, he added, “In safeguarding the rights of current and future generations, let us treat our planet with the kindness and humility it deserves.”
