Having announced the hiring of Jean Segura on Wednesday evening, the Miami Marlins had bad news for Quebecer Charles Leblanc, who was immediately designated for assignment.

Thus, Leblanc's name was removed from the Marlins' roster of 40 players. The next week could be decisive for the 26-year-old athlete from Laval. Over the next seven days, the Marlins will have to trade him or place him on waivers.

If he is not claimed by another major league baseball team, Leblanc could remain in the Marlins organization by taking the path of the minor leagues. Release is also possible.

This is a sad turnaround for the Quebecer who, in his debut in major league baseball, maintained a batting average of .263 in 48 games with the Marlins. He notably hit four home runs.

Earlier in the 2022 season, Leblanc stood out at the AAA level with the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp. In 87 games, he had batted .302, hitting 20 doubles and 14 long balls in passing.

Speaking of Segura, who plays in the infield like Leblanc, he signed a two-year contract with the Marlins as a free agent. The value of the agreement would be $17 million.
