The Union of Professionals and Self-Employed Workers (UPTA) has demanded that the Ministry of Labor "put an end" to the situation of the self-employed over 52 years of age in Spain, since they are not taking advantage of the 480-euro subsidy that they do receive their counterparts employed by others, as reported in a statement.

UPTA estimates that 45,000 professionals are in this situation in Spain and, after the involuntary cessation of their economic activity, they do not receive the subsidy that is granted to those who have been included in the General Social Security Regime and have exhausted unemployment.

The association has pointed out that, after the closure of their business, the self-employed usually maintain debts with suppliers, the Treasury or Social Security, so that this subsidy becomes more relevant.

"We cannot abandon self-employed workers who for years have created economic wealth in the performance of their business to their fate," denounced the president of UPTA, Eduardo Abad, describing it as "nonsense" that this subsidy for people over 52 is denied years to those who have been self-employed. "It is an unfair and totally unsupportive situation," he added.

UPTA has ensured that "it will do everything possible" so that, before the end of the legislature, the Ministry of Labor equalizes the rights of the self-employed unemployed to those of employed workers. "We will work intensively to find a viable way out that reinforces the situation of vulnerable unemployed self-employed workers," Abad said.
